Post-UFC on ABC 9 Facts: Rising Contender Bests Former Champion

Delivering on another stellar Fight Night card in the Middle East, the UFC saw its latest iteration record several amazing bouts in UFC on ABC 9. In the main event, former ONE Championship double champion Reinier de Ridder took a highly-competitive split decision victory over previous promotional title-holder Robert Whittaker. In the penultimate match, Petr Yan proved why he is by-and-far one of the best bantamweights on the roster by besting Marcus McGhee in a blowout performance.

Now, let’s take a look at some interesting post-event facts for the main card fighters of UFC on ABC 9.

UFC on ABC 9: Bogdan Guskov def. Nikita Krylov

Bogdan Guskov:

His win over Krylov marked his fourth victory in a row after losing in his UFC debut to Volkan Oezdemir back in 2023, as well as his 15th knockout victory across his 18-fight professional career.

Exiting UFC on ABC 9, he holds a 100 percent finish rate.

Nikita Krylov:

His loss to Guskov marked his second loss in a row. He has now lost two back-to-back bouts by first round knockout following being stopped by Dominick Reyes back in April at UFC 314.

Krylov has not won a fight since March 2023.

UFC on ABC 9: Asu Almabayev def. José Ochoa

Asu Almabayev:

He now reenters the winners circle after being finished by Manel Kape by strikes back in March at UFC Fight Night 253. His win over Ochoa marked his 10th overall decision victory.

He is now 18-1 in his past nineteen contests.

José Ochoa:

His loss to Almabayev at UFC on ABC 9 marked the second defeat of his UFC career after debuting in the promotion back in 2024 at UFC Fight Night: Yan vs. Figueiredo. He is now 1-2 in his past three contests.

His loss to Almabayev served as the second defeat of his professional career. It was also the second time he has lost by decision.

UFC on ABC 9: Shara Magomedov def. Marc-André Barriault

Shara Magomedov:

His win over Barriault on Saturday night marked his return to the winners’ circle after being defeated by Michael Page back in February at UFC Fight Night: Adesanya vs. Imavov. This match with Barriault earned Magomedov his second Fight of the Night bonus, which stands as his fourth overall post-fight bonus in the promotion.

He is now 4-1 in his last five UFC appearances.

Marc-André Barriault:

His match with Shara Magomedov was his fifth UFC appearance since January 2024. This loss to Magomedov marked his sixth defeat by decision.

After UFC on ABC 9, he is now 1-4 in his past five contests.

UFC on ABC 9: Petr Yan def. Marcus McGhee

Petr Yan:

Yan’s win over McGhee is his third victory in a row after losing to Merab Dvalishvili back in 2023 at UFC Fight Night 221. Saturday’s win over McGhee was Petr Yan’s 11th victory by decision

His past three opponents’ professional records total 55-11-1.

Marcus McGhee:

McGhee’s loss to Yan on Saturday night is the first time he has lost a bout since July 2022. In addition, it’s the first time he has been defeated by decision .

He is now 6-1 in his past seven contests.

UFC on ABC 9: Reinier de Ridder def. Robert Whittaker

Reinier de Ridder:

His win over Whittaker marked his fifth victory in a row and his third UFC win in 2025. Saturday’s headlining match with Whittaker was de Ridder’s first main event bout since March 2024 at ONE 166: De Ridder vs. Malykhin 2. In addition, he’s now 4-0 in his past four UFC appearances after making his debut back in 2024 at UFC Fight Night 247.

Robert Whittaker:

Whittaker’s loss to de Ridder was his second defeat in a row after previously being submitted by Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 308. He is now 2-3 in his last five contests. This match with de Ridder served as the ninth time he has been in a UFC main event.
