Light heavyweights Carlos Ulberg and Dominick Reyes face off at UFC Perth, as pros picked their winner.
Ulberg enters the fight with an impressive eight-fight win streak, building a case for a shot at the title. The third-ranked fighter has been particularly dominant in his last two outings, securing victories over Volkan Oezdemir and Jan Blachowicz. Reyes is also in the midst of a remarkable comeback. Reyes has rediscovered his form with three consecutive victories, beating Dustin Jacoby, Anthony Smith, and Nikita Krylov. Here is how the pros saw the fight playing out.
“This sets us up for the title for sure. We’ve still got a bit of time. If this fight goes ahead with the rematch with Ankalaev and Pereira, it’ll be a while. But either way I see myself fighting for the title next after this fight here,” Ulberg
“But what I make of Carlos, he’s an incredible athlete, man. And he’s going to be the best athlete I’ve ever fought in my career. He’s also really technical, excellent footwork. But it’s almost like, I dunno … he doesn’t want to lose. Carlos fights safe. He fights really safe. And that’s off putting to a lot of fans because a fighter fights, he doesn’t go out there and try to score points and sneak by. The reason why he’s not fighting for a title right now, his last performance was very lacklustre. You’re not getting a title shot off leg kicks and running away the whole time,” Reyes
(Modestas Bukauskas): “Well, because it’s in Perth, I think you got to give it to Ulberg having the hometown advantage. You know, very powerful hands, devastating striking, and, you know, I know that Dominic has been on a surge lately, but yeah, in my view, I think Ulberg takes that.
(Geoff Neil): I don’t know, man. I was gonna say I was gonna instantly say Carlos, but Dom Reyes has been having a little resurgence lately. So, I’m gonna go Reyes right now.
(Bryan Battle): “Right now, I would lean towards Carlos, you know what I’m saying? Like he hasn’t been to the mountaintop yet, you know what I’m saying? Reyes is already, you know, he had that fight where, you know, a lot of people thought he beat Jon Jones. So, you know, he’s super dangerous, he’s super good. He’s, after, you know, his last performance, looks like he’s got some of his mojo back, but I think it’s more Carlos’s time right now. So, I’m leaning towards Carlos on that one.
(Eric Mcconico): “Honestly, I think Dominic Reyes is really getting back into his stride. So, I mean, I really don’t like going against anybody of like who will win or not, but I like what I’ve been seeing of Dominic Reyes coming back.”
(Gerald Meerschaert): “Dominic Reyes: I’ll go with Dominic Reyes.
