Quinton Jackson stood by the referee's decision to stop King Green's first-round loss at UFC 332, even though Green protested the stoppage and wanted to continue fighting.
Esteban Ribovics dropped Green multiple times before Herb Dean waved off the lightweight bout at 4:08 of the opening round Saturday night in Salt Lake City. Jackson worked Green's corner for the fight but told Nina Drama afterward that he rarely takes that role.
At an afterparty following the event, Jackson explained to Green why Dean made the right call. "What we don't think about in fighting is that s--t adds up," Jackson said, per MMA Mania. "You put on a show before you worry about your own safety. We don't think about the wear and tear that we have on our body. That's what they be thinking about."
Green fired back with characteristic bravado, saying he does not plan on living long and looks death in the face. The former lightweight title challenger said he performs moves in real life that he sees in Dragon Ball Z.
Jackson acknowledged that watching a close friend absorb punishment was difficult but accepted it as part of the sport. He only agreed to corner Green because the fighter is such a good person, Jackson told the outlet, adding that Green always brings entertainment value to his bouts regardless of the outcome.
Green remains one of the most active fighters on the UFC roster despite the setback. No timeline has been announced for his return to the cage.
