Quinton Jackson believes King Green was spared from himself when referee Herb Dean stopped his UFC 332 bout with Esteban Ribovics in the opening frame.
Green absorbed multiple knockdowns before Dean waved off the lightweight clash in Salt Lake City. The stoppage drew criticism from Green, who told reporters he wanted more time to work his way back into the fight. But Jackson, who cornered Green for the card, told Nina Drama that Dean likely prevented further punishment, per MMA Mania.
"You put on a show before you worry about your own safety," Jackson said, per BJ Penn. "We don't think about the wear and tear that we have on our body. That's what they be thinking about. Like, my brother, I wanted to see you win but that might have been a bad decision. What we don't think about in fighting is that stuff adds up."
Jackson rarely works corners but made an exception for Green, whom he described as a brother. The former UFC light heavyweight champion admitted the loss was difficult to watch but comes with the sport's territory. "Bobby's an entertainer, he's going to bring it no matter what," Jackson said. "It just sucks seeing one of your boys get beat but it happens. It's part of the job."
Green's three-fight win streak ended with the defeat. Ribovics landed the finish after tensions flared when he missed weight earlier in fight week, prompting a confrontation from Green's camp.
Green is unlikely to return until 2027 as he regroups from the setback.
