Ronda Rousey has made it clear that her friendship with Gina Carano won’t get in the way of handing out a brutal lesson come Saturday night.

The former UFC bantamweight champion, who also claimed an Olympic bronze medal, built her reputation on a devastating armbar. That signature move helped her notch up eight career wins, five of which came inside the opening minute.

There’s been no shortage of mutual respect between Rousey and Carano in the build-up. But if Rousey locks in that submission and Carano refuses to tap, things could turn nasty at Intuit Dome.

One thing fans have pointed out about Netflix’s debut MMA event is the lack of real animosity between fighters. Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano clearly have a genuine respect for each other, which hasn’t exactly fuelled the pre-fight build-up.

But Rousey has made it clear that their friendship won’t stop her from doing whatever it takes if Carano refuses to tap out to her well-known arm bar.

When asked if she’d have any problem breaking Carano’s arm, Rousey didn’t hesitate: “I definitely wouldn’t have any hesitation in breaking it. But I also wouldn’t hesitate in putting it back in place, it’s kind of a wax on wax off kind of situation. You know, you don’t really break it, you just kind of dislocate it.”

“It’s not that bad, I’ve had my elbow go out several times because I didn’t tap and I thought I was really cool when I was young and I wouldn’t pay for it when I was older. But yeah, I wouldn’t hesitate and I would make sure to put it back.”
