Sean O’Malley makes compelling pitch to fight Petr Yan on UFC White House event

Ahead of his return to the UFC Octagon, Sean O’Malley has made his pitch to be included on the UFC White House event in June.

On January 24 at UFC 324, Sean O’Malley will return to the Octagon for the first time since his back-to-back clashes against Merab Dvalishvili, when he takes on Song Yadong.

Despite his back-to-back losses, ‘Suga’ still sits in the top three of the 135lb rankings, and following Dvalishvili’s recent title loss, the former champion has been given a boost to his title hopes.

And with that, ahead of his clash against the Chinese contender, the 31-year-old has made a compelling pitch to fight recently crowned champion Petr Yan on the upcoming UFC White House event.

O’Malley makes his case for White House title fight

After suffering two losses to ‘The Machine’ it seemed unlikely that O’Malley would fight for the bantamweight title any time soon.

However, with ‘No Mercy’ Yan dethroning the Georgian, it puts ‘Suga’ back in a great position for a potential title shot, especially considering his history with Yan.

Back in 2022, O’Malley picked up a highly controversial win over Yan, which the majority of the combat sports world feels like was the incorrect decision.

“Dude, I just have a whole new energy, I’m very f—— excited about this fight,” O’Malley said in a recent episode of his Podcast.

“When Petr beat Merab, I got a whole new level of just like, mental switch and hunger. I’m gonna go out there and beat Song and then me vs Petr at the White House.

“I just don’t see any other (fight) and I could be wrong, it just makes sense… Who else are they gonna have on the White House? (Alex) Pereira’s not on the card, Ilia (Topuria) is not gonna be on the card. Conor (McGregor), who knows? Jon Jones supposedly isn’t gonna be on the card. Who the f— else are they gonna have?” O’Malley continued.

O’Malley could have a point

Although it seemed highly unlikely for O’Malley to fight for a title again, he could have a case.

At this point, it is unclear who will headline the event, with some of the sport’s biggest current stars having already been written off.

Despite that, there is still chance that Conor McGregor returns to compete on the event, but it is unclear whether his fight will be the headline fight.

And over the years, O’Malley has proved to be one of the biggest stars in the sport, despite his recent poor run.
