Sean Strickland believes he would have easily beaten a prime Anderson Silva in fantasy fight

Sean Strickland has broken down why he feels he would not just beat a prime Anderson Silva, but do it with ease.

After his shock win over Khamzat Chimaev to become a two-time middleweight world champion at UFC 328, Strickland is finally being considered an all-time great. Given how dominant the former title holder was, a debate has begun about his ranking among the best fighters in history.

Atop the list of the division’s most renowned champions is Silva, who went on a historic run of 16 wins that included a 2,457-day reign with the belt. He is believed to be not only the best 185lb fighter of all time, but perhaps in the sport altogether.

When it comes to any sport, the general consensus tends to be that the greats of today are better than the greats of yesteryear. This is due to improvements in sport science, fitness and general understanding of movement especially in newer sports like MMA.

Sean Strickland holds this belief when it comes to his position. And he told Nina Drama during a live stream at Adin Ross’ Brand Risk Promotions event on Saturday night that there wouldn’t be much of a fight if he were to face a prime Anderson Silva, who is considered perhaps the greatest of all time.

“I’d f— him up,” he giggled after being asked how a fantasy matchup with the Brazilian at his best would play out. “I mean, there’s a big level difference now. If you could take Anderson Silva and bring him into modern time, you know what I’m saying?

“Every generation gets better and better. So it’s kind of hard to say ‘would I beat this guy up?’ Well, yeah, like naturally the sport is getting better.”
