UFC Seattle has gotten off to a fantastic start; with each of the Fight Night’s opening three bouts ending via brutal KO/TKO.

Modestas Bukauskas and Nursulton Ruziboev kicked the UFC Seattle night off with back-to-back knockouts, which were secured in the first and second rounds respectively.

However, it’s the third fight of the night, a catchweight bout between Austin Vanderford and Nikolay Veretennikov, that’s caused a stir – and not even for the fight itself, but rather what happened next.

UFC Seattle prelim ends with post-fight shove

There was some serious hype around American Austin Vanderford heading into UFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs Song – and ‘The Gentleman’ certainly didn’t disappoint.

After almost getting Veretennikov out of there in the first-round, Vanderford kept up the pressure almost as soon as the second round started; working in his takedowns and landing some vicous ground-and-pound to score the TKO win.

However, chaos erupted after the referee called a halt to the fight, with Veretennikov walking up behind Vanderford and giving him a hearty shove in the back.

Security thankfully intervened before the two engaged in an immediate rematch; with both fans and fighters on social media calling for Veretennikov to be removed from the promotion over the push.

UFC fans demand fighter be removed from promotion

“Dude big mad he got his a—whooped with his hand secured behind his back lmaoooo,” wrote one fan on X, with another pointing out the obvious: “Welp, Veretennikov just lost his job lol.”

“That’s one way to punch your ticket to getting cut from the UFC,” wrote veteran Michael Chiesa on X.

UFC lightweight Renato Moicano had a rather different take to Chiesa: “They should let them fight ! Free entertainment and free money for ufc! UFC is not doing his Homework.”

“Austin Vanderford earns an impressive stoppage win and then Nikolay Veretennikov runs over and pushes him after the fight, which should pretty much end his run in the UFC,” reacted MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin, adding in consensus opinion: “See ya.”

“Imagine getting your a—beat for 10 minutes then having the audacity to push your opponent when he isn’t ready, b—- move.”

Victory in his promotional debut at UFC Seattle sees Vanderford move to 13-2 as a professional – who would you like to see him face next?
