Silva Picks Garry Over Makhachev As Borralho Disagrees

Jean Silva believes Ian Garry will dethrone Islam Makhachev at UFC 330 next weekend, though his Fighting Nerds teammate Caio Borralho is not convinced.

Garry challenges Makhachev for the welterweight title on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. The Dagestani champion is a massive betting favorite after moving up from lightweight, where he defended the belt four times before stopping Jack Della Maddalena to claim the 170-pound strap.

Silva acknowledged backing Garry creates tension within his gym, per Sherdog. "I like Ian Garry, I prefer Ian Garry," he said. "I have little problem for my team." The comment appears to reference Carlos Prates, Silva's teammate who lost to Garry last year. Borralho visibly disagreed during the exchange, shaking his head as Silva made his pick.

Garry's Path to the Title Shot

Garry carries a 17-1 record into the bout, with nine UFC wins and only one loss — a defeat to Shavkat Rakhmonov, who is currently sidelined with injury. The former Cage Warriors champion has stopped Prates, Belal Muhammad, Geoff Neal and Neil Magny during his promotional run.

Makhachev enters on a 16-fight winning streak, tied with Anderson Silva for the longest in UFC history. The champion holds a 28-1 record overall and has not lost since 2015.

UFC 330 takes place Saturday, Aug. 15, with the main card streaming on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN.
