Jacobe Smith remained undefeated at UFC Halloween but failed to deliver the finish fans expected against Randy Brown.
Smith entered Saturday's co-main event in Las Vegas as a heavy favourite against the welterweight veteran, per MMA Mania. The 30-year-old knockout artist had stopped all four of his previous UFC opponents and built a reputation for explosive slams and brutal elbows, but Brown survived three full rounds to hand Smith his first decision win inside the Octagon.
The undefeated prospect controlled the action from start to finish, opening a cut on Brown's face with a series of elbows from top position. Smith stayed aggressive and showed his usual athleticism, but the Jamaican veteran hung tough to reach the final bell. Judges scored the bout lopsided in Smith's favour, pushing his UFC record to 5-0 in the welterweight division.
"Rude Boy" carried real name value into the matchup, making him the first credentialed test of Smith's hype. The finish never came, leaving observers to wonder whether the prospect can crack elite-level opposition or if his ceiling sits lower than advertised.
Smith has called out Kevin Holland in recent weeks and will likely face another step up in competition when UFC matchmakers book his next outing. That assignment will determine whether the Halloween letdown was an outlier or a sign that finishing power alone cannot carry him to the top of the division.
