Main Event and Card Significance

The main event between Brandon Royval and Manel Kape is a fight with significant stakes for the flyweight division. This bout has been booked twice before but most recently fell through due to injuries (according to Nolan Smith of MMA Junkie), making this a long-awaited bout.

The winner is expected to be in the flyweight championship conversation for 2026, and could face newly-crowned champion Joshua Van, who beat Alexandre Pantoja via controversial injury stoppage. It is fitting that the final ESPN headliner is a pivotal moment for the division's future.

Oddly, however, the UFC decided to have this monumental send-off to take place at the UFC Apex, a venue that has been the subject of controversy for MMA media, fans, and even fighters for its lackluster atmosphere.

Elsewhere on the card, former Bellator welterweight champion Yaroslav Amosov makes his UFC debut against the promotion's all-time wins leader, Neil Magny, on the prelims. The main card also features the return of fan-favorite featherweight striker Giga Chikadze against the heavy-handed Argentinian fighter Kevin Vallejos.

End of an Era

UFC Fight Night: Royval vs. Kape represents the closing chapter of the UFC's seven-year broadcast relationship with ESPN. This partnership, which began in 2019, was instrumental in elevating the UFC's profile through extensive coverage across ESPN's television channels and the ESPN+ streaming platform. It catapulted the UFC even further into the mainstream zeitgeist, especially due to the fact that the UFC was the sole major sports organization that did not stop its schedule during the COVID-19 quarantine in 2020.

The transition to Paramount in 2026 marks the most significant shift in the promotion's U.S. broadcast home since it moved to Fox in 2011. As such, this event is not just the final card of 2025, but a historic farewell to the platform that hosted some of the sport's most memorable moments of the last half-decade.
