Tom Aspinall isn’t letting the recent UFC 321 debacle dent his sense of humor.
Last Saturday’s pay-per-view in Abu Dhabi ended in anticlimactic fashion after Ciryl Gane’s eye poke against Aspinall left the UFC heavyweight champion unable to continue. The result was announced as a no contest, leaving the fans in attendance at Etihad Arena and watching from home far from satisfied.
While the Frenchman committed the serious foul, Aspinall has found himself under fire from some who claim he took the opportunity to exit a fight that was not going his way.
As he continues to seek treatment for his damaged eye, the Englishman is not letting the ongoing hate get in the way of some rather appropriate jokes…
The heavyweight champ first surfaced online to post a video showing the aftermath of the UFC 321 eye poke. A YouTube uploaded showed Aspinall returning backstage before being taken to hospital for medical tests.
He’s continued undergoing examinations back home in the United Kingdom, and a recent post on Aspinall’s Instagram Stories revealed he was back in hospital.
While seemingly in a waiting room, Aspinall passed the time by cracking some Halloween jokes related to his recent unfortunate experience inside the Octagon.
After first suggesting he’s “ready for Halloween” because of his eye patch, Aspinall posted an image showing Gane’s face on the body of Freddy Krueger, the villain from A Nightmare on Elm Street who is known for wearing a glove with knives at the end of each finger.
The image was captioned, “Halloween is coming, Ciryl Gane is ready.” Aspinall wrote over the post, “Man’s BEEN ready.”

Fans quickly reacted to Aspinall’s latest social media posts, with many appreciating his humorous approach to the situation almost a week removed from UFC 321.
“It’s best to joke about his predicament, as opposed to wallowing in misery.”
“That’s funny. At least Tom is making light of the situation and not digging himself any deeper.”
“British humor at its finest.”
“At least Tom Aspinall’s got the jokes.”
“This is funny.”
Intentionally or otherwise, the champ’s hospital visit with the eye patch has ended up playing into Jones’ trolling reactions to the Aspinall vs Gane incident last Saturday.
The former heavyweight champ initially addressed the first title fight since he vacated the throne by changing his profile pictures on social media from a duck — referencing claims that Jones ‘ducked’ Aspinall — to a duck with an eye patch.
The Rochester native did not let up, though, and turned up to the recent Dirty Boxing 4 weigh-ins riding a horse that also had one of its eyes covered by a patch.
