A top pound-for-pound star hints at an unlikely training camp pairing
The past few weeks have seen Conor McGregor back in headlines, but this time for the right reasons. The former two-division champion has been sharing training footage that quickly went viral, sparking both excitement and criticism. Many noted that his speed seems to have dipped and questioned whether he’s losing a step. Still, what can’t be denied is McGregor’s effort—he’s been putting in consistent work, is officially in the UFC drug-testing pool, and all signs are pointing toward a massive return at the White House card in July 2026.
Adding intrigue to his preparation, McGregor may not be doing the work alone. Pound-for-pound contender and relentless grappler Merab Dvalishvili recently revealed in an interview with Full Send MMA that he plans to train with McGregor in the near future.
‘I was on FaceTime with him when I was in China and I said let’s go Conor I’m going to come train with you. I have a fight coming up so not right now but after the fight I will go and visit him,’ Dvalishvili explained.

Before any collaboration happens, however, Dvalishvili has business to take care of. He is set to meet Cory Sandhagen on October 4 at UFC 320 in the co-main event, a card headlined by the highly anticipated rematch between Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev.
For now, the focus remains on that fight, but once it’s behind him, a training link-up with McGregor could be the next step.
