UFC middleweight Trevin Giles confirmed on Monday in an Instagram video that he has heart "irregularities" that have been linked with the fainting spell he experienced before Saturday's scheduled bout versus Kevin Holland at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
"They ended up telling me that I have some irregularities in my heart and that seemed to be at the center of the issues I was having on fight night," Giles explained. "I'm trying to get with a cardiologist so we can get everything cleared up."
The 27-year-old fainted moments before he and Holland were set to open Saturday's main card. Giles was awake and aware shortly after he passed out, but the Nevada State Athletic Commission immediately canceled the bout even though Giles insisted he wanted to compete:
Giles spent a night in the hospital, where he was told of his heart issues. He returned home to Houston on Sunday. As ESPN's Marc Raimondi wrote, Giles plans to meet with a cardiologist.
Giles last fought on Feb. 8, when he defeated James Krause via split decision and earned Fight of the Night honors. He improved to 12-2 that evening.
