The Octagon returns to Toronto for the first time in over five years for the first UFC pay-per-view event of 2024 as UFC 297: Strickland vs. Du Plessis takes place at the Scotiabank Arena. The main event sees UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland making his first title defense against top contender Dricus Du Plessis. Strickland scored a massive upset over Israel Adesanya in September to become the new champion and has faced scrutiny for several comments he made this week. Du Plessis has yet to taste defeat on the UFC roster, winning six straight fights to earn his title shot. The co-main event will see a new women's bantamweight champion crowned when Raquel Pennington squares off with Mayra Bueno Silva for the vacant title. Pennington has won five straight fights while Bueno Silva is unbeaten in four fights since moving to bantamweight.
