The outcome of the UFC 315 main event title fight between welterweight champion Belal Muhammad (24-2, 1 NC) and No. 5 ranked Jack Della Maddalena (17-2) will have a ripple effect in two weight classes. Depending on who wins, matchups will be made.
Former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria recently vacated the 145-pound championship to move up to the lightweight division. He's expected to debut in the weight class at UFC 317 but who he'll face will be determined by who wins the UFC 315 main event on Saturday in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
In a recent appearance on Spanish television's El Hormiguero, Topuria said that he'll either be fighting lightweight champion Islam Makhachev or former lightweight titleholder Charles Oliveira next.
If Muhammad wins, Topuria would take on Makhachev for the lightweight championship. If Della Maddalena emerges victorious, Topuria would take on Oliveira while Makhachev moved up to the welterweight division to fight for the belt.
UFC CEO Dana White as asked about Topuria's comments during Thursday's UFC 315 Pre-Fight Press Conference.
“Yeah, there’s a lot of moving parts right now and yeah, that’s pretty accurate,” White said.
UFC 317 takes place on June 28 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas during the UFC's annual International Fight Week.
