With UFC 316 behind us, we can take a look at the little-known fighter compliance salaries.
UFC often treats fighter salaries as a 'trade secret,' meaning plenty of athletic commissions don't disclose how much the champions, challengers, or debuting fighters make on Fight Night.
What we can deduce, however, is the promotional guidelines compliance pay for every fighter on the card. This is the money fighters earn for attending media events and following general promotional guidelines throughout the week. They're paid in a tiered system according to the number of fights they've had, or their status as champion or challenger.
UFC 316 pays out $320,500 in promotional guidelines salaries
UFC paid out a total of $320,500 in promotional guidelines payouts to its athletes at UFC 316. The number increased with the double title fight headliner, which saw higher payouts for both champions and challengers.
Notably, Kayla Harrison earned $32,000 despite having three fights in the UFC. As for non-champions, Kevin Holland and Vicente Luque topped the bill with $21,000 each. Merab Dvalishvili and Julianna Pena each earned $42,000 as champions.
With his performance bonus at UFC 316, Merab Dvalishvili earned a minimum of $92,000 for submitting Sean O'Malley.
UFC 316 marks one of the highest payouts of the year, topping recent events.

- Debuting fighter Joo Sang Yoo earned a $50,000 performance bonus for his prelim finish over Jeka Saragih
- Kevin Holland took home $50,000 for submitting Vicente Luque on the main card

- Merab Dvalishvili earned a $50,000 performance bonus for submitting Sean O'Malley

Chimaev’s grappling led to a comfortable points victory, though his approach was not universally praised. Some critics have called him out for not going after the finish, especially given the stakes and profile of the fight. He stated that the Chechen fighter will look even sharper when he puts his belt on the line for the first time. “His control was outstanding, it was a brilliant performance,” he wrote. “I’m sure he’ll take a lot from this dominant showing, and next time we’ll probably see him chase more finishes.” Khamzat Chimaev’s next opponent and timeline After his win at UFC 319, Khamzat Chimaev did not waste any time signalling his readiness for a quick return to action. He is eyeing a title defence at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi, scheduled for October 25. Dana White also mentioned that this could be the date for Chimaev’s next fight during the post-event media sessions. However, that date now appears unlikely. All four top middleweight contenders are already scheduled to fight each other in the next months. Nassourdine Imavov and Caio Borralho are set to headline UFC Paris on September 6. Then there is Reinier de Ridder versus Anthony Hernandez, who will face off at UFC Vancouver on October 18. With all four fighters already committed and so close to Chimaev’s preferred date, it is hard to see any of them being ready in time for an October turnaround.
Bill Belichick takes another shot at Patriots owner Robert Kraft
It is no secret that the relationship between Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft has been strained since Belichick left the New England Patriots. Belichick took an obvious shot at Kraft and the Patriots owner's son, Jonathan, who is the president of the team, during an interview with Ben Volin of the Boston Globe that was published on Thursday. Belichick is preparing for his first-ever season as a college coach with North Carolina. When asked what he has noticed that is different about coaching in college versus the NFL, Belichick insinuated he has enjoyed not having to answer to any members of the Kraft family while doing his job in Chapel Hill. "It’s a much more cohesive, and I’d say unified, view of what we’re trying to do and how we’re trying to do it," Belichick told Volin. "It’s a lot of football, and there’s not much in your way. "There’s no owner, there’s no owner’s son. There’s no cap, everything that goes with the marketing and everything else, which I’m all for that. But it’s way less of what it was at that level." Shots fired. There is no way to interpret that other than a criticism of Robert and Jonathan Kraft. Had Belichick left it at not having to answer to a team owner, you could make the case that he was speaking generally about the NFL. The fact that he added in "owner's son" makes it obvious he was referring to his old bosses, as both Robert and Jonathan are hands-on with the Patriots. Belichick is almost certainly bitter over the way his tenure in New England ended following the 2023 season. He coached the Patriots for 24 seasons and won six Super Bowls, so he likely felt he should have been given more time to turn things around in the post-Tom Brady era. The Kraft family preferred to move on after a 4-13 campaign. Though Belichick insists he is solely focused on the upcoming UNC season, this is not the first time in recent months that he has gone out of his way to throw a jab at Robert Kraft.
Giants rookie shines again, completing promising preseason
Preseason football can produce some misleading results, but the New York Giants have to be ecstatic with what they have seen from first-round pick quarterback Jaxson Dart so far. He impressed again on Thursday night against the New England Patriots, before being removed from the game to be evaluated for a concussion. The Giants said he cleared the concussion protocol. Prior to that, however, Dart was showing all of his skills in leading the Giants offense. While his final stat line only shows a 6-for-12 passing performance for 81 yards, some of those incompletions were passes that could — and, perhaps, should — have been caught. He did not get a lot of help from his wide receivers. Even so, he still completed a 50-yard pass to Gunner Olszewski, and then connected with Greg Dulcich for a touchdown on a laser of a pass. Along with the passing, Dart also showed off his ability to run with a 23-yard gain. The only downside to that run, however, is that it ended his night when his head hit the ground, resulting in him leaving the game to be evaluated for the potential concussion. Dart does not figure to be in serious competition for the starting job as veteran Russell Wilson seems to have that locked down, at least for now. But Dart has done everything he can in the preseason to show that he has the ability to play at the NFL level. Including his performance on Thursday, he leaves the preseason having completed 32-of-47 passes for 372 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions and also ran six times for 52 yards and a touchdown. It is hard for a rookie to do better than that in their first look in the NFL. The Giants have been searching for a long-term quarterback solution ever since Eli Manning retired and have gone through a revolving door of bad options. They are hoping Dart can finally put an end to that for the foreseeable future. There is still a long way to go before he gets to that level, but he has certainly made a great first impression.

Yankees' continued defensive meltdowns hurt them again against Red Sox
The New York Yankees can hit the baseball out of the ballpark as well as any team in the major leagues, and that will always give them a chance to win any game. They also field the baseball as poorly as any team in the major leagues, and that can cost them games. The latter issue was on display once again on Thursday night in a 6-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox to kick off an absolutely massive four-game series in the American League wild-card race. Not only did the Yankees lose to allow Boston to keep gaining ground in the standings, but they also kind of gave it away in the field. The issues started in the top of the second inning when the Yankees made three errors, including a throwing error from catcher Ben Rice to bring in Boston's first run. The fielding miscues continued in the top of the ninth when first baseman Paul Goldschmidt committed the Yankees' fourth error of the game, allowing the inning to extend for Roman Anthony to come to bat. He used that at-bat to pretty much put the game out of reach with an absolute moonshot of a home run. These fundamental errors and mistakes were a problem for the Yankees a year ago, and they remain a problem now. They are also not going away anytime soon, and they keep showing in big moments — and in big games. Until they figure out a way to get that changed — and it might be too late for this roster to do so — they are going to have some big concerns going into October. Hitting home runs is great. But not consistently making routine mistakes and giving good teams extra outs is the type of thing that not even home runs can always overcome. Overall, the Yankees are a very good team. Until they clean up these mistakes, they won't be a great team.
