UFC champion brutally calls for a Daniel Cormier ‘mute button’ after being unimpressed by his UFC 319 commentary

This champion’s enjoyment of UFC 319 was seemingly hampered by one familiar voice at the commentary desk.

Saturday’s pay-per-view event in Chicago was certainly a memorable affair. While Khamzat Chimaev’s win over Dricus du Plessis in the main event was one-sided and lacked entertainment in the eyes of many, the same cannot be said for the undercard.

The event featured two consecutive spinning back elbow knockouts, with Lerone Murphy starching debutant Aaron Pico in the co-main event right after Carlos Prates had sent Geoff Neal to the same fate. There were also impressive performances from Tim Elliott, Michael ‘Venom’ Page, and Baisangur Susurkaev.

But while the fights may have delivered, one reigning titleholder had one issue with the UFC 319 broadcast — and it concerned the usual trio of commentators sitting cageside.

Jack Della Maddalena is not a fan of Daniel Cormier’s UFC commentary

Among those watching on from home was UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena. But the Australian’s viewing experience was apparently far from ideal.

The topic of commentary in MMA’s leading promotion remains a polarizing one, with fans and analysts divided when it comes to the work of Daniel Cormier, Joe Rogan, and the like.

But it is clear where Della Maddalena stands on ‘DC’…

“The only way Kayo can redeem themselves. DC mute button,” Della Maddalena wrote in a post on his Instagram Stories.

Cormier has been criticized in the past for a variety of reasons, from alleged bias to talk of insufficient research prior to calling UFC events.

Daniel Cormier was accused of bias against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315

Della Maddalena’s comment during UFC 319 is perhaps the first indication that the Australian may share fan sentiment when it came to Cormier’s commentary for his most recent fight this past May.

Cormier called the UFC 315 fight card in Montreal alongside Dominick Cruz and Jon Anik. He came under fire during Della Maddalena’s win over Belal Muhammad in the main event, with some accusing ‘DC’ of showing favoritism to ‘Remember the Name’.

“Daniel Cormier, stop (expletive) your boy Muhammad and call the fight evenly without bias.”

“Daniel Cormier commentary is biased… Belal Belal Belal….”

“The Belal bias from Daniel Cormier is unbearable.”

“Daniel Cormier (definitely) biased towards Muhammad. Doesn’t call out when Jack lands on him.”

But Cormier had plenty of people coming out in support of him after Della Maddalena’s brutal call for a “mute button” this past Saturday.

“I’ll never understand the DC commentary hate. DC, Rogan, Anik is the dream team, and I won’t be taking any questions.”

“I enjoy DC the most.”

“This forced hate needs to be stopped.”

“Team DC.”
