The UFC has put on some blockbuster events but what would an ultimate card look like if you handed over the reins to two former fighters?
When he first became the promotion’s president, Dana White claimed he would take the UFC to new heights and transform it into the “Super Bowl of Mixed Martial Arts”.
Though he has seemingly accomplished this goal, there will always be criticisms and people who believe that they could do a better job of putting on the best events possible.
With fans currently questioning who could headline the promotion’s event at the White House in 2026, two legends of the sport recently got together to assemble their dream UFC cards.
On a recent episode of ESPN MMA’s ‘Good Guy / Bad Guy’, Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen were tasked with building the ultimate UFC card.
Their only rules were that they had to put together a five-fight main card with some of the biggest names in the sport all being assigned a price value, with both men only having a maximum of $30 to spend.
Cormier made it clear from the start that his overall goal for his ultimate card was to bring in the most money and eyeballs imaginable by booking the next chapter in four of the sport’s biggest rivalries.
“They like to call me a corporate guy,” Cormier said. “‘Oh, DC is a company man’. Of course, they write me massive checks every time I go to work. So I’m thinking about myself and the company because the bigger the fight, the more the guys make.”
With that in mind, the card was topped by Conor McGregor facing Khabib Nurmagomedov for a second time and Cormier himself taking on Jon Jones.
The rest of his main card was made up of Chuck Liddell versus Randy Couture, a trilogy fight between Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal and a fun main card opener between Dustin Poirier and Frankie Edgar.
While Daniel Cormier chose to focus on putting on fights that fans have been invested in before for his ultimate card, Chael Sonnen took a different route.
“Now you came at it from the boys standpoint, I roll with the company,” Sonnen said during ESPN MMA’s ‘Good Guy / Bad Guy’.
Topping Sonnen’s card were two huge fights that fans never got to see, with Brock Lesnar facing Francis Ngannou and Georges St-Pierre taking on Anderson Silva.
Amanda Nunes versus Kayla Harrison was a Sonnen pitch that already appears to be next for both women while Nick Diaz against Khabib Nurmagomedov and a rematch between BJ Penn and Diego Sanchez are out of the question.
