UFC legend Daniel Cormier is backing Dana White to deliver something special during Saturday’s boxing debut on Netflix.

White is fronting the promotion of Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford, a super fight that sees the latter move up two divisions to challenge for the Mexican star’s undisputed super middleweight status.

The event, held at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, also marks the first major boxing promotion in partnership with Turki Alalshikh and Riyadh Season.

Cormier was speaking at UFC 303 media day ahead of his work as a commentator on Alex Pereira’s light heavyweight title defence against Jiri Prochazka. He said:

“You know what I’m interested in? I want to see what the UFC production side looks like because Dana’s there.”

Cormier then emphasised how much he trusts White: “So if Dana is there, I can almost guarantee you it’s going to be good.”

Chael Sonnen expects positive changes from Dana White’s involvement in Canelo vs Crawford

Boxing broadcasts have often been criticised for slow pacing, something Dana White has already said he intends to address. Former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen believes more improvements are on the way under White’s leadership.

Speaking on his Good Guy/Bad Guy show with Daniel Cormier, Sonnen told viewers that White will introduce changes fans have long wanted to see.

“You will see it as a viewer,” Sonnen said. “The presentation that Dana White’s going to put forward, whether it’s the colour of the ring, whether it’s the walkouts, the presentation is going to be different.

“I am very excited for that. I am ready for something new. There are only certain things you can do; you’ve got a squared circle that’s 17 feet by 17 feet and governed by the same commission.

Sonnen added: “But I guarantee Dana will do something. And when you watch, it’s going to be a treat and you’re going to go, ‘Oh, I wish we had that before.’ … I think that is one of the most exciting things.”

Chael Sonnen believes Dana White will make Canelo vs Crawford a better watch

One of the biggest complaints from boxing fans has always been the slow pace of broadcasts, something White has already promised to address. Former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen expects even more positive changes from the 56-year-old.

Sonnen, speaking on his Good Guy/Bad Guy show with Daniel Cormier, said that boxing fans can look forward to changes under White that many will wish had happened sooner.

“You will see it as a viewer,” Sonnen said. “The presentation that Dana White’s going to put forward, whether it’s the colour of the ring, whether it’s the walkouts, the presentation is going to be different.

“I am very excited for that. I am ready for something new. There are only certain things you can do though right? You’ve got a squared circle that’s 17 feet by 17 feet and you’ve got the same commission that oversees it; there are only certain things you can do.”

“But I guarantee Dana will do something,” Sonnen continued. “And when you watch, it’s going to be a treat and you’re going to go ‘Oh I wish we had that before.’ … I think that is one of the most exciting things.”
