UFC Noche three goes down this weekend, and the UFC is offering fans a superb night of fights, with featherweight contenders Diego Lopes and Jean Silva duking it out with possible title implications on the line. In the co-headlining bout, bantamweight luminary Rob Font tussles with Mexican prospect David Martinez. The third annual UFC Noche is stacked with talent throughout.
Coming off a championship defeat to Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 314, Lopes makes his big return to the sport in an effort to get himself back into contention. Although his fellow top-ranked contemporaries Movsar Evloev and Lerone Murphy may appear to be on the cusp of their own shots, the Brazilian can potentially leapfrog them with a stellar performance in Texas this weekend.
Emerging as one of the hottest names in the 145-lb division, Silva has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the rankings after just a year on the UFC roster. Recently picking up a second-round submission win over Bryce Mitchell this past April, “Lord” has proved to be a stern threat everywhere the bout goes for every single opponent he has faced so far. He looks to continue this great form at UFC Noche 3.
Handing the then-unbeaten Jean Matsumoto his first loss in competition in his last time out, Font once more prepares to battle another young gun in Mexico’s Martinez. Having shared the Octagon with a bevy of formidable 135-lb contenders, the veteran from Massachusetts boasts a significant experience advantage over his adversary.
Originally slated to combat Quang Le on the card, Martinez was unexpectedly rebooked to face the much more seasoned Font. For most competitors so early on in their UFC tenures, this fight could feel like a nightmare scenario, but for “Black Spartan,” a monumental triumph over the ranked striker can skyrocket him up the ladder in the weight class. Could he steal the show at UFC Noche?
