UFC Vegas 106 is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing cards to hit the Apex this year. The May 17th event, set in Las Vegas, is currently expected to be headlined by a light heavyweight clash between Paul Craig and Rodolfo Bellato, though with the recent wave of lineup changes across UFC events, nothing feels locked in. Now, a newly announced welterweight bout adds even more intrigue—a showdown between battle-tested grit and rising, undefeated promise.

According to Jacque Enríquez , a compelling welterweight clash between Gilbert Burns and Michael Morales is officially set for the event. However, the bout was rumored to take place at UFC 315 on May 10 in Montreal before being linked to this card. Many fans have expressed confusion over why it did not land on the pay-per-view event, but some speculate this fight could ultimately serve as the main event for UFC Vegas 106. At 38, Burns enters the Octagon on a three-fight skid, most recently dropping a decision to Sean Brady. Despite the setbacks, 'Durinho' has remained fiercely competitive and continues to face top-tier talent. His resume includes battles with former champions like Kamaru Usman and Tyron Woodley, proving he’s still willing to take on anyone, anytime. Known for his suffocating grappling and powerful striking, Burns remains one of the toughest tests in the division.

Standing across from him will be 25-year-old Michael Morales, a surging Ecuadorian prospect with an unblemished 6-0 record in the UFC. Morales is riding a six-fight promotional win streak, with his most recent victory coming over veteran gatekeeper Neil Magny. This matchup marks a significant leap in competition for the young prospect—and a prime opportunity to prove he’s more than just hype. A win could potentially propel Morales into the welterweight top 10, signaling his arrival among the elite contenders.

With Craig vs. Bellato at the top and now Burns vs. Morales added to the lineup, UFC Vegas 106 is poised to deliver a compelling mix of high-stakes drama and rising star potential. With Dana White and the UFC brass continuing to shuffle lineups and rework cards behind the scenes, this event could still see some movement before fight night arrives.
