Featherweight Kevin Vallejos secured a first-round stoppage against Josh Emmett in the main event of UFC Vegas 114.
Vallejos needed less than four minutes to dismantle one of the division’s most respected veterans, ending the fight at 3:33 of the first round. Vallejos focused on the lead leg before landing a clean uppercut that set the tone for the striking exchanges. Midway through the round, Emmett landed a massive overhand right.
Vallejos didn’t blink, firing back a perfectly timed counter right hand that sent Emmett crashing to the canvas. He then unloaded ground-and-pound with elbows and punches, allowing Emmett to struggle back to his feet—only to meet a fresh barrage. Back on the feet, Vallejos punished Emmett’s midsection with knees before landing two final, heavy right hands. As Emmett crumbled for the second time, referee stepped in to wave off the contest.
“I have the utmost respect for Josh Emmett,” Vallejos said after moving to 4-0 in the UFC. I’m not going to lie, I came in here with a little bit of fear. We knew that [him throwing bombs] was part of the plan, we know we could counter. Listen, he’s an old dog, same tricks. He came with the same things, we knew it and we solved it. Argentina, keep dreaming. Because you’re going to have a world champion,” Vallejos said
