Welterweight Showdown in Vegas
Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK

A true tale of the tape in a welterweight match main event between American Neil Magny & out of Brazil, Carlos Prates.

Both fighters seem to have a similar build, but Magny has a slight edge in the areas that matter, specifically reach. Magny seems to have the advantage in almost every area. He is two inches taller and has a bit of an advantage in his reach width at eighty inches. In Prates’ defense, his fighting style is that of a striker. That could play up to his advantage.

Prates does have an age advantage of thirty-one and a better winning percentage, winning all his fights this year by knockout or technical knockout. In his last match against Jingling fight lasted four minutes and two seconds but it took him until the second round to knock out Jinglang. Prates seems to live up to his nickname The Nightmare.

On the opposite side of the coin, Neil Magny lost his last fight against Michael Morales in the first round by knockout or technical knockout at the 4: 39 mark. Magny does have a disadvantage in this match with only fighting twice this year with a record of 1-1. He also does not have youth on his side because he’s 37.

In totality, the Vegas odds seem to favor Magny by +500 on the Moneyline and +2,000 by knockout, technical knockout, or disqualification. He is also favored to win pointwise by +1100. Let’s see if Prates can shock everyone and squeeze out a surprise win.

To watch fight, it is available on ESPN+ at 6 pm and at the UFC Apex Saturday, November 9th.
