Street Fighter Death Sentence’s brief stay in the win column came to an end this past weekend.
The Streetbeefs fighter – real name Maraji Johnson – had dropped four straight before linking up with UFC legend Demetrious Johnson, who helped him secure a surprise submission win in May.
‘Mighty Mouse’ was in his corner again as he tried to make it back-to-back wins against YouTuber Zach Cray.
But despite making a strong start, Death Sentence slipped to 1-5 overall after losing to the 22-year-old.
Demetrious Johnson’s fighter started strong, nearly securing a rear-naked choke in the opening moments.
But he couldn’t lock it in, and Cray managed to slip free. Back on their feet, Death Sentence threw a lot of punches but failed to connect with any of them.
The missed attempts clearly took a toll, and he soon looked exhausted.
Cray took advantage, dodging more wild swings before backing his opponent up against the fence and finishing the fight with a series of clean shots.
The referee stepped in when Death Sentence went down and stopped defending himself, putting an end to the contest.
Frustrated by the result, Death Sentence punched a wall on his way out of the arena. Meanwhile, Cray stayed behind to celebrate his win with fans who stuck around after the event.
After picking up his first Streetbeefs win earlier this year, Death Sentence didn’t waste any time making bold statements.
He sent a message to Dana White, outlining his ambition to fight in the UFC and even called out Jon Jones, widely considered the greatest fighter in MMA history.
In June, he said: “If he was in this room right now, I would swing on him.”
“F— it. Come to Charlotte, and we can spar. The reason I haven’t talked s— about Jon Jones recently is because I’m going to focus on my opposition. But if Jon Jones was in this room, I would swing on him.”
“I could take him out. I don’t have a grudge against him anymore like I used to. I just wanted to beat his a— because I’m like, ‘Bro, I deserve what he’s got. I want it.’”
“So, I don’t got no beef with Jon Jones no more. But again, if he was in this room and he wanted to run it, we can do that. It’s on him though.”
