Reinier De Ridder’s UFC journey hit its first roadblock in Vancouver. After a dominant start, ‘The Dutch Knight’ faded late and never made it off the stool for Round 5. Brendan Allen’s relentless pace, pressure, and grappling flipped the script, handing De Ridder a TKO loss, his first inside the Octagon. For a fighter once hailed as a future title threat, this was a reality check. So, what’s next for him after this setback?
A logical next step could be Caio Borralho. Both men now find themselves regrouping after losses. Borralho recently dropped a unanimous decision to Nassourdine Imavov in September, ending his own momentum. Stylistically, it’s an intriguing matchup, De Ridder’s methodical ground control versus Borralho’s measured, counter-based jiu-jitsu. It’s a clash of two technicians looking to reclaim relevance.

More importantly, it’s a fair reset for both. A win for either would restore confidence without the pressure of title implications. But there’s another option, and it’s a story of unfinished business.
Anthony Hernandez. The two were supposed to meet at UFC Vancouver before Hernandez withdrew due to injury, paving the way for Allen to step in. Given how well the original matchup was received by fans, rebooking it makes perfect sense. Hernandez’s nonstop pace could test De Ridder’s endurance once again, while De Ridder’s positional dominance could force “Fluffy” into survival mode. Both fighters need a rebound. Both have something to prove.
