FBI Director Kash Patel recently made headlines after describing a new collaboration with the UFC as a “historic” opportunity. It is tied to a two-day training seminar held at the FBI’s training academy in Quantico, Virginia, where UFC fighters worked directly with agents and trainees.

The partnership, announced earlier in March 2026, brought some of the UFC’s biggest names into a federal law enforcement setting. The list of fighters who trained FBI officers included Justin Gaethje, Jorge Masvidal, and Michael Chandler. The said fighters were responsible for helping teach MMA techniques to both academy recruits and experienced officers.

Patel himself framed the collaboration in strong terms. In an official statement, he called this unique partnership a “tremendous opportunity” for agents to learn from “some of the greatest athletes on earth,” adding that it would help the FBI become “even better prepared to protect the American people.”

The FBI already trains agents in defensive tactics, but this seminar introduces techniques drawn from mixed martial arts. By learning from UFC fighters, agents gained exposure to the most effective methods used in combat sports.

A federal agency partnering with a global combat sports organization like the UFC is highly unusual. This is an actual crossover between the MMA world and the FBI that hasn’t been seen at this level before. Obviously, the news made strides in the realm of combat sports.

Why the UFC-FBI Collaboration Stands Out

Instead of relying on traditional methods, the partnership focused on teaching and bringing in expertise from outside fields, especially those focused on real-time adaptability and high-pressure situations. Learning from UFC fighters isn’t just about combat. It’s about mindset, composure, and the ability to react quickly when things get unpredictable. Obviously, the move hasn’t gone unnoticed.
