Gina Carano has been in the headlines ever since her recent defeat to Ronda Rousey. The American Hollywood star has enjoyed a decorated career as a fighter. Afterward, she finally decided to enter the world of glamor. One thing fans are curious about currently, though, is why she was fired from Disney’s The Mandalorian in February 2021.
Carano, who played fan-favorite rebel marshal Cara Dune in the hit Star Wars series, had already faced criticism for posts about COVID-19 restrictions, election fraud, and political commentary. However, the final controversy centered around an Instagram story in which she compared the political divide in the United States to the treatment of Jewish people during the Holocaust.
Her actions sparked the hashtag #FireGinaCarano across social media almost instantly. Soon after, Lucasfilm released a statement saying Carano was “not currently employed” by the company and that there were “no plans for her to be in the future.” The studio also called her social media activity “abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Reports at the time suggested Disney and Lucasfilm had grown increasingly frustrated with repeated controversies surrounding the actress. According to reports, executives had reportedly warned Carano previously about her online behavior. What followed was the final incident that led to her dismissal.
Carano built a strong reputation in women’s MMA during the late 2000s and was often seen as the face of the early era. It was her popularity that helped her land a role in action movies.
Her breakout role was in Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 action thriller film Haywire. Her career went uphill from there on as she starred in Fast & Furious 6 and Deadpool. The role that finally introduced her to the mainstream audience, however, was as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian.

Following her Disney exit, Carano worked with conservative media company The Daily Wire on independent film projects, including Terror on the Prairie. She also filed a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm in 2024. It was over wrongful termination claims, a legal battle settled in 2025.
