You might have thought that, with a shock return to MMA on the horizon, the last thing on Ronda Rousey's mind would be a return to pro wrestling to go along with it. Well, apparently not. The Rowdy One turned up in AEW at Revolution out of the blue, and it sounds like WWE was just as surprised to see her as the rest of us.

Ronda Rousey Rocks Up At AEW Revolution

As Toni Storm was recovering following her victory over Marina Shafir at Sunday night's Revolution, Rousey popped up, stood in the ring, and beckoned to The Timeless One to return. Storm, smile on her face, obliged, only for the ring to be swarmed by officials to keep the two of them apart.

The defeated Shafir took the opportunity to get a cheap shot in on Storm, and, other than a look showing her greeting Jon Moxley backstage, that was all we saw of Rousey. We will likely learn more about how involved she will be with AEW in the coming days, and it sounds like WWE is just as eager to know the deal.

According to The Wrestling Observer, some in WWE were aware that Rousey was going to show up at Revolution. However, it seems that those in the know were likely close friends of the former Women's Champion, as most in WWE were shocked to see Rousey appear.

Why WWE Officials Might Have Been Surprised To See Rousey At Revolution

There are a couple of reasons WWE higher-ups will have been surprised to see Rousey in an AEW ring. First and foremost, her pro wrestling return comes in the midst of an even more unexpected return to the MMA world. Rousey will fight Gina Carano on Netflix in May, marking the first time she has fought since retiring from UFC almost ten years ago.

Carano has been on an even longer hiatus, having not competed since 2009.

Rousey has also been pretty negative about how her stint as a pro wrestler came to an end. She has publicly dragged WWE, focusing her ire on Vince McMahon, for the most part, and even noted as recently as last year that the door was closed on her wrestling career.

Even though most of the bad stuff she had to say about wrestling was WWE-focused, her comments about the business prompted MJF to come to its defense. MJF didn't mince his words when saying what he thought about Rousey's take on pro wrestling, so it's somewhat interesting that, if Rousey is sticking around, the two might meet backstage.
