At 48, the ‘Soldier of God’ shows no signs of stepping away from the sport just yet.

Last month, at RAF 5 in Sunrise, Florida, Yoel Romero experienced his first defeat since 2023.

Even though Romero did not come away with a win in that fight, he is still turning heads with how many different formats he is competing in. There are not many fighters who could handle this kind of schedule at his age.

His move into bare-knuckle boxing has been a natural fit. Romero was always known for his power and durability in MMA, so it makes sense that he’s found success without gloves as well.

Next up, he will be facing someone who actually has more MMA experience than him.

Romero has signed on for his next fight, this time with the IBA Bare Knuckle promotion.

It is not exactly easy to find opponents who are willing to take him on without gloves, but that has not stopped him from staying active.

IBA Bare Knuckle announced today that Romero is set to make his promotional debut against Vagab Vagabov. The bout is scheduled for March 28 at the KSK Arena in Saint Petersburg.

The Russian fighter holds a 30-1-1 record in MMA and has appeared in different rule sets over the years.

He also had two bouts with the World Series of Fighting, which is now better known as the PFL.

Both of those events were headlined by Justin Gaethje defending his lightweight title with stoppages over his opponents.

In one of those matches, Vagabov was suspended for five months after repeatedly hitting his opponent even after the referee had stepped in to stop the bout during his debut. That happened in the same card of Gaethje’s rematch against Luis Palomino.

Yoel Romero was scheduled for a bare-knuckle fight this weekend

Romero’s recent contract signing with IBA Bare Knuckle drew plenty of attention, especially since he had just withdrawn from another bout.

He was supposed to challenge Lorenzo Hunt for the BKFC light heavyweight title at Knuckle Mania in Philadelphia, the promotion’s big annual event.

But after falling ill with the flu, ‘Soldier of God’ had to pull out, and David Mundell stepped in as his replacement.
