With action in the transfer portal slowing down, it is time to take a closer look at how each P4 school did during this cycle. Up now are the North Carolina State Wolfpack
The skinny: Head coach Dave Doeren has rather quietly established a winning culture in Raleigh during his 11 seasons with the Wolfpack. This includes winning at least eight games each of the last four seasons for the first time in program history. With expectations high in 2024, the Wolfpack acknowledged their offensive shortcomings in 2023 by adding several explosive players who have the potential to make this fall a memorable one at NC State.
Total # entries into portal: 29
Total # of scholarship players who entered portal: 25
Number of scholarship players who withdrew: 2
Key losses: QB MJ Morris (Maryland), DB Jakeen Harris (North Carolina), DL CJ Clark (Miami-Florida), ATH Julian Gray (Liberty)
Key additions: QB Grayson McCall (Coastal Carolina), DB Donovan Kaufman (Auburn), OL Zeke Correll (Notre Dame), DB Devon Marshall (Villanova), TE Justin Joly (UConn), RB Jordan Waters (Duke), WR Wesley Grimes (Wake Forest), WR Noah Rogers (Ohio State)
Final thoughts: The Wolfpack hit the portal quarterback lottery by signing Grayson McCall. A veteran possessing impressive accuracy, he should be an immediate upgrade for the offense. To help him, Noah Rogers, Wesley Grimes and Justin Joly were added to a receiving corps that was able to retain Freshman All-American Kevin Concepcion. The biggest offensive liability in 2023 was the running game, which received a huge boost with the signing of Jordan Waters. On top of that, the offense added Zeke Correll, who will start at center and lead an already talented line. Defensively, the unit led the team in 2023 and should once again be dominant. Helping that cause were the additions of players like Devon Marshall and Donovan Kaufman to the secondary. The Wolfpack have the potential for a very big season in 2024. How big that season is will be determined by the play of the transfers they’ve signed over the last 7 months.
