KTM have made a move ahead of the 2027 MotoGP season, signing Fabio Di Giannantonio from VR46 to partner Alex Marquez. Several teams had Di Giannantonio on their radar for 2027, but KTM acted quickly to get a deal done.
It’s a reunion of sorts, as the two riders have previously been teammates, which should help them hit the ground running next year.
The timing caught many off guard, as news of the agreement surfaced just before the French Grand Prix weekend kicked off.
KTM’s decision has put both Raul Fernandez and Pedro Acosta under some pressure heading into this year’s silly season. Both need strong showings in the early rounds if they want to hold onto their seats beyond this year.
Rosario Triolo broke the story on X, reporting that Di Giannantonio will link up with KTM for the 2027 season.
The move comes after Diggia’s standout performance in Jerez, where he picked up a podium finish at the Spanish Grand Prix and continued his rise as one of MotoGP’s most promising talents.
While there had been talk recently that Honda was making progress towards signing him, KTM managed to wrap things up first.
KTM now has both rider spots settled for next season and can turn their attention fully towards developing their 850cc prototype ahead of the upcoming regulation changes.
Pit Beirer and the rest of the KTM management will be hoping that Diggia and Alex Marquez can bring stability to their lineup, especially with all the uncertainty ahead of next year.
KTM have struggled this season, with Maverick Vinales’ injury problems contributing to a lack of consistency and missed opportunities in the standings.
If Diggia and Marquez perform as expected, it could help them avoid similar issues next season. Consistent performances from both riders would go a long way towards addressing those shortcomings.
This move also means Vinales and Brad Binder will need to find new teams for next year, adding another layer of complexity to the rider market.
