Austin Hill flips off Sammy Smith for several laps during Bet MGM 300 in Charlotte
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

As Drake would say, “Tensions is definitely rising” at Charlotte Motor Speedway between Sammy Smith and Austin Hill.

During Saturday’s Xfinity Series race at the track, Hill and Smith got into a heated battle. Both drivers were T’d up, and Hill even took it as far as flipping Smith off on the track. He hasn’t been known for his cool demeanor on the track, that’s for sure.

Check out the battle below, and make the decision for yourself. Was it simply hard racing, or are Hill and Smith right to be angry with each other at the moment? Let’s go to the tape.

Alas, Hill is no stranger to beef. Anyone can get it, that might as well be Hill’s motto. Smith was the one to feel Hill’s wrath on Saturday, but he certainly didn’t back down from the No. 21 in Charlotte.

We’ll see if this rises to the level of Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., or even Austin Hill and Shane Van Gisbergen from earlier this season. Time will tell, but the heat is on at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday.

Riley Herbst threatens retaliation after AJ Allmendinger wrecks him at Charlotte

Meanwhile, Austin Hill and Sammy Smith aren’t the only ones with beef in Charlotte, as Riley Herbst is not very happy with AJ Allmendinger after being wrecked at Charlotte. Herbst is thinking about getting payback next week at Portland.

Riley Herbst was doing just fine. He was in a thick battle on the track with Cole Custer, AJ Allmendinger and others. While fighting Allmendinger for position Herbst put a slide job on the 16 car.

Allmendinger didn’t like that much and just kept driving forward with a run off the corner. A bump to the left rear and Herbst was spinning out and wrecking soon after.

“I haven’t seen a replay,” Herbst admitted, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “I passed him twice clearly, slid him, racing at Charlotte it’s hot, passed him. Next week is Portland his favorite track? We’ll see what happens.”

Riley Herbst then doubled down on the threat of retaliation at Portland next week.

“I mean it’s really hot, Charlotte. Everyone is sliding around. My spotter said ‘clear’, I moved up to the fence and he had a run off the top which is fine and he could have tried to slide me back and get some momentum but instead he just got my left rear and hooked me. So, unfortunate. But probably unfortunate for him.”
