One of NASCAR's newest teams could add a third car to their Cup Series fleet in 2025.
According to FOX Sports' Bob Pockrass, RFK (Roush Fenway Keselowski) Racing has a "major announcement" set for Tuesday. Team co-owner and Cup Series driver Brad Keselowski will be in attendance, as will his teammate Chris Buescher and others who are close to the team.
RFK started as Roush Racing in the late 1980s, as former Ford employee performance founder Jack Roush started taking stock car racing seriously by starting a team based out of North Carolina.
They became Roush-Fenway Racing in 2007 when Boston Red Sox owner John W. Henry and the Fenway Sports Group purchased 50% of the operation.
Keselowski left Team Penske after the 2021 season to join Roush-Fenway, and he also became a co-owner, leading to the team's new name and branding.
If the team is indeed adding a third driver to the Cup Series roster, many believe it will be former Stewart-Haas driver Ryan Preece.
Preece drove the No. 41 Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing over each of the last two seasons, but he'll need a new team to join as SHR has shut down its NASCAR team.
Keselowski teased the announcement on social media with a series of posts reflecting on the 2024 campaign last week.
"Look for several (official) big announcement from RFK in the next 2 weeks," said the former Cup Series champion.
2024 was the best season of RFK Racing's short existence, as Keselowski and Buescher each won races. Keselowski ended a 110-race winless streak with his victory at Darlington, while Buescher won at Watkins Glen for the sixth win of his Cup Series career.
2025 appears to be a season for massive changes in NASCAR, as SHR will no longer exist and 23XI is currently suing the sport itself.
We'll see how the changes materialize on the track when drivers reconvene in February for the Daytona 500.
If the rumors are true, there could be another car and driver added to one of the Cup Series' most prominent and enduring teams.
