One of Bubba Wallace's team members was left stunned and even a little bit angry at one of the other drivers after Sunday's NASCAR All-Star Race.
It was Joey Logano who finished second in the million-dollar exhibition race behind Christopher Bell. Despite it being just a cash race, Logano was left fuming after the race. He told reporters he was "pissed off" and "frustrated" over his performance at North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina.
“I’m pissed off right now,” Logano said. “Just dang it, we had the fastest car. The Shell-Pennzoil Mustang was so fast. You get to … I’m trying to choose my words correctly on the caution situation. Obviously, I got bit by it, so I am the one frustrated."
But Logano's spotter Freddie Kraft found Logano's comments both amusing and infuriating. Appaering on the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Kraft dismissed Logano's statements on the caution and accused him of being a hypocrite.
“What the (expletive)?,” Kraft said. “First of all, he was crying after the race about the caution that we all knew was coming. This is probably one of the most hypocritical things I’ve ever heard anybody say.
“It’s just funny for me. He gets out of the car. First of all, he’s mad about the caution… The roles were reversed. He was finally the best car and got beat by strategy or caution. But we all knew that caution was coming.”
Logano led for 139 of the 250 laps at North Wilkesboro. But on Lap 216, a caution allowed Bell to move up to the top. Logano stayed out during the caution while Bell got to pit for fresh tires. On Lap 241, Bell was able to go even with Logano and finally pulled ahead thanks to some help from the outer wall.
“He did a great job of trying to keep me behind him, and I knew that once I got that run off Turn 4, it was like alright, I’m going to have to be a little more aggressive and kind of leaned on him and got him out of position,” Bell said after the race. “I knew once I got the lead, I had the tire advantage so I should be able to cruise, and it worked out that way.”
With $1 million now in Bell's pocket rather than Logano's it's an expensive lesson Logano won't soon forget.
