Chase Briscoe confirms he will race aggressively in 2024 after a beef with Jimmie Johnson’s driver at Phoenix
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Following the retirement of Kevin Harvick, the No:14 Ford Mustang driver Chase Briscoe became the leading driver at Stewart Haas Racing. He is the only driver in the team to have previously won a Cup race. He is also the only one in the four-driver team who has secured a Cup seat for the 2025 season and the only one to have a proper primary sponsorship.

He has also been the only driver alongside Noah Gragson, who stepped up in the last two races, to be consistent for the team. Briscoe had a solid race on Sunday at Phoenix, where he secured a P9 finish. But it didn’t lack controversies though as he started a beef with Legacy Motor Club’s No:43 Toyota Camry driver Erik Jones.

Jones, who crashed out after getting in an unfavorable four-wide situation due to Briscoe, called out that SHR driver for his aggressive racing style. It has been a recurring situation so far this year as the duo seldom fight for the same positions. Briscoe responding to Jimmie Johnson‘s driver asserted that he would be racing aggressively than he had done in the past because he was getting the same treatment from the frontrunners.

I feel like we definitely are always kinda racing around each other. Yeah, I’m racing hard, I’m trying to do what’s best for my guys, last year I kind of let people go and this year I’m not doing that. The guys that run up front are the guys that are the most aggressive and I’m going back to those ways. I don’t know what part he’s mad about I know that we were four wide at one point over there, and I got really tight and he got wrecked the next lap by the guy right behind me. Briscoe told Frontstretch.

Chase Briscoe gives his verdict on new aero-package

One of the major changes that was introduced at Phoenix was the new aero-package for the Next-Gen cars. This was intrduced with the gaol of ending teh traffic inssue tjhe 7th Gen car faces on the short tarcks and was developed with over the last season.

The Ford star was one of the many drivers to give a positive review about it. He pointed out that thgough it isn’t a perfect solution, it has made the car better to race. Briscoe also admited that owing to his limited experince and young age he might not be the right guy to give a verdict on the changes.

For me, this thing drove super good compared to what I have had in the past here. I don’t know if it was the package last year or what. You probably have to ask some more experienced guys, some guys that ran up front in both races. I felt good with it. I felt like we could move around a lot and the tire was good. It was a fun day. Briscoe said.
