Chase Briscoe Not a Fan of In-Season Challenge for Specific Reason

When NASCAR created the new In-Season Challenge for 2025, it immediately left both drivers and fans alike wondering how the format would impact the on–track racing. Once the checkered flag fell with Chase Elliott taking the win at Atlanta, there wasn’t one perfect bracket left standing following 400 miles of intense racing around the 1.5 mile superspeedway.

The Big One struck early on lap 69, collecting many contenders while knocking out many drivers expected to advance in the tournament including Denny Hamlin, William Byron and Ross Chastain. Following Atlanta, many underdog drivers have a more realistic chance at claiming the $1 million dollar prize.

Among those eliminated after round one included Joe Gibbs Racing driver Chase Briscoe, who expressed his thoughts Tuesday on SiriusXM NASCAR’s “The Morning Drive” on why Atlanta shouldn’t have hosted the in-season challenge opener.

“I’m not a fan, personally, you know I love the racing at Atlanta,” Briscoe said. “The other night obviously I was just kind of watching as a fan and knocked out from that race which is so intense. Obviously I have a different perspective because I know what it’s like but yeah I thought this race to watch was incredible there at the end.

“As for the competitor side of me I definitely don’t love the superspeedway to start off a bracket challenge and even really being in the bracket at all. It definitely changes things there’s so much out of your control as a driver but it was the same for everybody. The teams that moved on, they did a good job or missed the wrecks.

"I think for me I would have liked to have been able to control my destiny a little bit more and just go to tracks where you feel like there’s more for the whole team, right?”

Briscoe seeks his second win of the season for Joe Gibbs Racing as the NASCAR Cup Series heads to the Chicago Street Course Sunday, July 6. Coverage begins at 2 p.m. ET with the NASCAR Nation pre-race show on TNT.
