Chase Briscoe perfectly, hilariously describes chaotic NASCAR Atlanta night race

Last night was a letdown for Chase Briscoe coming off of the high of his win at Pocono just a week before. The 19 car fired off going in the wrong direction. Briscoe dropped from the top-10 to the back of the Cup Series field relatively quickly.

When the “big one” happened in Stage 2, Chase Briscoe was caught up in it. Everyone, for the most part, was caught up in the wreck in one way or another. 23 or 40 cars on track were involved, according to NASCAR.

To sum up his experience at Atlanta, Briscoe had little to say, but it said so much. This NR2003 GIF he posted is the perfect representation of the race last night. “Pretty much what tonight felt like for us,” the driver wrote on his social media post.

To kind of add salt to the wound, Chase Briscoe didn’t get to make a return to the track. His No. 19 team spent half and hour doing emergency repairs on the Toyota to get it back out on the track.

A NASCAR official overseeing the repairs came by at one point and noticed the chassis was damaged. They determined the car wasn’t safe to re-enter the race and made the team stop working on the car. Briscoe had to take the DNF.

Chase Briscoe frustrated by NASCAR ruling

When it was all said and done, Chase Briscoe had to accept a P35 DNF after all of his troubles. His team worked hard to get his car fixed. It was all in vain as NASCAR wouldn’t let them return to the race with the chassis damage.

On the TNT broadcast, Briscoe voiced his frustrations. He didn’t seem to agree with the ruling. At least, the timing of the decision.

“Yeah, I don’t know how bad our damage was,” Briscoe said to TNT Sports. “I know that they were fixing it, and we were about ready to go. And I guess NASCAR came over there and saw that our chassis was broke or bent or something, so they were like ‘Yeah, you guys can’t go back out.’ So, yeah, kinda wasted 30 minutes working on it, but just unfortunate…”

Good news, Chase Briscoe is locked into the NASCAR Playoffs. Bad news, he needs to earn as many playoff points as he can before the end of the regular season. DNFs are not how you do that.
