Chase Briscoe voices frustration with NASCAR shutting down No. 19 car during repairs at Atlanta

After getting involved in the massive 23-car wreck in Stage 2 of tonight’s Quaker State 400, Chase Briscoe is a little frustrated. Fresh off his win in the Pocono Cup Series race, the NASCAR driver had a much different experience at Atlanta tonight.

Chase Briscoe has had ups and downs with Joe Gibbs Racing this season. Tonight in Atlanta was just one of those things. More cars were in the wreck than not in the wreck. It took about 10 cars out of the race for repairs or completely for DNFs.

While making repairs on the car, Briscoe’s crew was told to stop. NASCAR officials saw that the chassis was bent. They then ruled that the 19 team could not drive that car back onto the track.

After leaving the care center, Chase Briscoe was asked about the ruling. He wasn’t very happy about it.

“Yeah, I don’t know how bad our damage was,” Briscoe said to TNT Sports. “I know that they were fixing it, and we were about ready to go. And I guess NASCAR came over there and saw that our chassis was broke or bent or something, so they were like ‘Yeah, you guys can’t go back out.’ So, yeah, kinda wasted 30 minutes working on it, but just unfortunate…”

Briscoe is locked into the playoffs with a win. However, this was not how he expected his night in Atlanta to go. From the start, the 19 car fell off the pace quickly. Then, before Briscoe could get things turned around, he was wrecked out of the race.

Chase Briscoe out of the race after chassis damage

NASCAR’s new Damaged Vehicle Policy did give teams time to make repairs. However, NASCAR can rule that a vehicle is too damaged or that a certain repair cannot be made in the garage during a race. It seems for safety reasons, the chassis damage was too much for officials to let back on the track.

A lot of teams were making repairs in the garage after the big wreck. It has made the track emptier, and honestly, there might be better racing because of the lighter field. Briscoe now finds himself out of the race along with his teammates Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell.

A rough night for Chase Briscoe and his team. They worked hard to get back on the track, only to be told they weren’t allowed to. Not a fun way to end the race. So, it’s onto Chicago for the 19 team.
