The 2023 season was one to forget for Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott. He finished the season winless for the first time since his debut season in 2017. Elliott failed to make it into the playoffs for the first time in his career at the premier divisions of the sport, and his chase of the owners’ championship ended in R-8.
The major reason for his underwhelming year was his injury in a snowboarding accident ahead of the season’s third race. He broke his tibia and missed out on six races in the first half of the season. Since his return, Elliott has failed to perform with the same consistency as he used to, and the winless streak cost him the playoffs.
Despite an underwhelming end to the previous season, Elliott has a positive outlook about the coming year. He is going in with a business-as-usual approach where everyone will start fresh with an equal wavelength to start the season. He expects to have a nice start and carry on the momentum to the season’s remaining races.
I feel like it’s kind of just business as usual and an opportunity to start fresh. Everybody’s kind of on equal wavelengths to start the year, and you just hope that you fire off good and have a nice start and try to get in the routine of getting back on the road and getting back in the car. Chase Elliott told NBC Sports.
