Disaster for Christopher Bell just before the end of the stage at Sonoma Raceway. He got into teammate Chase Briscoe in the process. Bell had driven up towards the front of the field. Then, as Bell and Briscoe came out of the pits after flipping the stage, he locked up his tires.
Drivers who went to pit road early on were protecting tires. Whatever happened with Christopher Bell, he had to lock up his tires, and then he spun out after getting into the marbles on the track.
“God dang it, I ended up in the marbles,” Bell said on the radio. He took the blame for the incident.
RFK Racing captured it perfectly. Just a tough situation for Bell and that No. 20 team.

Now, there is timeto move back up. However, Christopher Bell went from being with Chase Briscoe, who was one of the first cars behind Shane van Gisbergen, to all the way back to where he ended up after this. It has taken Bell a majority of Stage 2 to catch back up and get within a couple of positions of Briscoe.
Of course, SVG has been the best in the field. He is taking care of his tires better than anyone else. As the rear tires and grip leave everyone else late into a run, the 88 car has been nothing but smooth sailing.
Christopher Bell and the rest of the field are chasing Shane van Gisbergen. No more mistakes the rest of the way, and someone might have a chance to do it.
Today is the 200th start in Christopher Bell’s Cup Series career. A major milestone, but not one that usually comes with a win. However, there has been a strange thing happening in motorsports this weekend.
Yesterday, Pato O’Ward made his 100th start in IndyCar. He walked away with a win at Iowa as a result. Today, Marc Marquez made his 200th start in MotoGP. Guess what. He won the dang race.
There have been drivers who have found the magic on these milestone starts. But it is rare. With O’Ward and Marquez, it is impressive to see them score wins on their big days.
So, why not Christopher Bell? He has been fast today. Maybe not race-winning fast. Maybe not SVG fast. But one adjustment, a couple of caution flags, and we are not far from seeing Bell walk away as a winner.
