Dale Earnhardt Jr. Shoots Down Growing NASCAR Track Rumor

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has offered his two cents on the rumors involving Texas Motor Speedway.

Following last weekend's Würth 400 at Texas, there was some rumors about the popular speedway received the "Atlanta Motor Speedway treatment."

Prior to the start of the 2022 NASCAR season, Atlanta Motor Speedway repaved its surface in hopes of mimicking the style of racing we see at iconic speedways like Talladega and Daytona.

Although there are some fans who would be open to Texas Motor Speedway changing up its surface, Earnhardt doesn't expect that to happen. In fact, he doesn't think it would be necessary.

On the latest episode of the "Dale Jr. Download," he explained why he's fond of the current setup at Texas Motor Speedway.

"There was a rumor going around that some track on the NASCAR circuit was considering getting the Atlanta treatment. But I believe that it’s not Texas," Earnhardt said, via On3. "I’d seen some messages on social about someone thinking that there was a track considering that, but it is not Texas.

"I know a lot of people were going, ‘Oh, it’s got to be Texas because Marcus [Smith] owns Atlanta, and he loves what’s happened there. So why wouldn’t he try to take it to Texas?’ I think Texas right now is starting to get into its peak in terms of the age of the asphalt, how slick it was. Dude, those Xfinity guys were busting their [expletive] all over the place. That’s what we need. Don’t change nothing. Don’t touch it."

Texas Motor Speedway has hosted a Cup Series race every year since 2005. After last weekend's exciting results, it's hard to advocate for a major change.

That being said, it certainly sounds like a popular track will undergo the "Atlanta Motor Speedway treatment" in the future.
