Daniel Suarez still steaming at teammate Ross Chastain, levels second threat after Sonoma

Daniel Suarez and Ross Chastain may be teammates at Trackhouse Racing, at least for the remainder of the 2025 season. However, there’s not a lot of love between them right now. The Monterrey, Mexico native wasn’t happy with the No. 1 Chevrolet wheelman after this Sunday’s race at Sonoma Raceway.

Suarez was spun by Chastain in a bit of teammate on teammate action in Turn 11. He was fuming afterwards, threatening the Alva, Florida native: “Better hope I don’t get to him today,” Suarez said on the radio, via Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic.

According to NASCAR.com, Chastain relayed an apology through his spotter to Suarez later in the race, but the No. 99 wheelman is hoping for a bit more. He believes a conversation is warranted as the team leaves California, or there will be hell to pay.

“I hope so,” Suárez said, regarding whether he’ll talk to Chastain about what transpired. “And if it doesn’t happen, he’s gonna get it back.”

That sounds a bit testy from Suarez. Even though he’s said all the right things about not returning to Trackhouse Racing next season, there may be a bit of animosity going on. At the very least, Suarez recognizes that he doesn’t need to answer to Chastain and Trackhouse moving forward.

More on Daniel Suarez, Trackhouse Racing

With no plans for the 2026 season lined up, Daniel Suarez is fighting and racing for himself right now. There is no bigger team plan or project in the works right now. He has to prove during every single race that he’s worthy of being back in the Cup Series.

Where does Suarez go from here? Many aren’t sure. Kaulig Racing could bring Suarez in and move Ty Dillon out of the No. 10 car. That’s been floated as an option among NASCAR circles.

Meanwhile, some have theorized Suarez could move to the Xfintiy Series. JR Motorsports would be intriguing for him. Racking up some wins and perhaps a championship could be great for a one-off season for Suarez, before potentially returning to the Cup Series in 2027 with a more solid option.

Regardless, Daniel Suarez showed that he is not afraid to fight for himself on Sunday. He will even go up against his own teammates to do it.

In his situation, he has to be aggressive — he can’t lay over. Whether his future is in Cup or the Xfinity Series, he has to prove to a team owner somewhere out there to take a chance on him, like Justin Marks once did.
