David Ragan continues to be the guy that NASCAR turns to to show off and test these really interesting electric prototypes. Today, at North Wilkesboro, Ragan gave the fans a pallet cleanser after one of the messiest and worst modified races you will see all year.
NASCAR has its own electric prototype that it built with ABB. Chevrolet has released a version of their own that is a Blazer EV with more than 1,300 horsepower. For now, Toyota is opting to avoid electric prototypes and is investing research into hydrogen combustion engines.
David Ragan has been behind the wheel of these EV prototypes a few times now. He tested the NASCAR/ABB version at Martinsville and noted that he was able to get down to lap times more or less consistent with what the Next Gen Cup car does now.
After the modified race, the North Wilkesboro crowd needed a bit of a refresher. Perhaps the best part of the whole race was that it ended. Meanwhile, Ragan went out on the track and gave Wilkesboro an experience it has likely never had in its long and storied history.
We see you, @DavidRagan

While we have seen David Ragan race a little bit in the last few years, he is really taking this EV prototype job seriously. He has tested these cars, driven them for special events like today. Whatever your opinion on EV racecars, it is very cool for NASCAR to bring Ragan in on this project.
North Wilkesboro is the Field of Dreams of NASCAR. With help from government funds, the track has been rebuilt and is now putting on races of all kinds for race fans. David Ragan is there with the EV prototype, the modifieds raced, we saw CARS Tour action – now it’s time for the main event.
Today, the NASCAR Cup Series will have the All-Star Open and then the All-Star Race. When the Open is done, the top two from the race will advance to the big race. Then, the All-Star Fan Vote winner will be added to tonight’s race field.
Shane van Gisbergen will start on pole for the Open. His qualifying effort and his pit crews’ efforts made that happen. Then, we will see Brad Keselowski on the pole for the All-Star Race. Keselowski has had a terrible 2025 season. So, he could use a boost.
Last season, Joey Logano walked away with the $1,000,000. Who will add seven figures to their bank account tonight?
