Denny Hamlin lost his cool with one of his own teammates during Sunday’s NASCAR Cup race.
Hamlin spun out teammate Ty Gibbs during Lap 111 of the USA Today 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H. Hamlin was angry that Gibbs was not doing more to get out of his way.
Hamlin, who remains in the NASCAR playoffs, felt that he should be getting more deference from Gibbs, who is not in the postseason.
Denny Hamlin was frustrated in how his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate in Ty Gibbs was racing him, so he dumped him at the next chance he got.

“Does Ty know we’re going for a championship? What the f—?” Hamlin asked at one point.
Hamlin also referred to Gibbs’ refusal to let him pass as “some teammate bulls-” just before the crash.
Gibbs is also the grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs, meaning Hamlin essentially crashed his boss’ grandson. Hamlin was seen in discussion with Joe Gibbs on pit road following the conclusion of the race.

Hamlin wound up finishing 12th. He refused to comment on the altercation with Gibbs after the race.
This is not necessarily anything new for Hamlin, though the stakes are arguably higher now at this stage of the season. Things might be awkward between the two teammates for a while.
