Denny Hamlin praises Kyle Busch for Truck Series win at Atlanta

Making his Spire Motorsports debut in the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series this past Saturday, Kyle Busch raced his No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado to victory lane in the Fr8 208 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The win was Busch’s 65th in 170 starts in the Truck Series, an all-time record, and his third in his last six starts dating back to the start of last season. Busch led 33 laps en route to picking up the victory and as Denny Hamlin said on his “Actions Detrimental” podcast Monday, “took those kids to school.”

“He wins the Truck race, that was awesome,” Hamlin said. “He took those kids to school on that for sure. It looked like his truck just worked a lot better on the bottom than others or he did a better job driving.”

The Atlanta race was Busch’s first start at a superspeedway-style track in a lower series event since the Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway in 2015, when he sustained a compound break of his right leg and a fracture of his left foot. It was also the first of five races he’ll run for Spire Motorsports in the Truck Series this season.

Busch made the pass for the win on Lap 129-of-135 when then leader Grant Enfinger began to lose pressure in one of his tires. Enfinger was forced to pit, and Busch held off Ty Majeski and Corey Heim to extend his all-time record of 230 victories across all three of NASCAR’s national series.

“I actually got a run on the 9 truck [Enfinger] down the backstretch,” Busch said after the race. “He must have been going flat down the backstretch and slowing down because it gave me—it sucked me up right to him. Then he got loose in the corner. I got loose in the corner. We all checked up trying not to crash.

“Thankfully, we didn’t. I thought that was a big moment. But then we got the lead right there, and after that, it was about trying to protect it. Majeski was a bit of a wing man today. Appreciate him—and the history we’ve had together growing up racing late models with him a lot in Wisconsin and around those parts.

“That was a lot of fun. Great to get Chevrolet to victory lane.”
