Dover Weather Delay: When NASCAR Xfinity BetRivers 200 will resume
Mandatory Credit: Matthew OHaren-Imagn Images

A red flag at Dover Motor Speedway has the NASCAR Xfinity Series BetRivers 200 on hold. Connor Zilisch is currently the race leader. NASCAR has set the sunset deadline for 8:10 PM ET. At that point, if the race is still going on, there will be two laps to go the next time the leader crosses the start-finish line.

This race is expected to get back going. However, there is no guarantee. If the rain holds off for a little bit and the jet dryers can do their thing, then we could see more action.

66 laps to go if this race goes back green. It could be another win for Zilisch and the 88 team.

UPDATE: The Xfinity Series race did not continue. Connor Zilisch won the BetRivers 200 at Dover Motor Speedway. While the race was cut short, he dominated the parts that were run. Leading 77 laps, a race high, Zilisch showed that he can compete against anyone on any track.

Aric Almirola is a great benchmark for these elite Xfinity Series drivers. If Almirola wanted to, he could have likely continued his Cup Series career or a full-time Xfinity Series career. However, he’s opted to race part-time and help out around Joe Gibbs Racing on the competition side of things.

Even the former Cup Series driver couldn’t match Zilisch. It was an impressive performance, albeit a shortened race due to rain. Back-to-back wins for Zilisch on two tracks that couldn’t be any more different in Sonoma and Dover.

NASCAR plagued by weather at Dover Motor Speedway

Earlier today, the NASCAR Cup Series had practice and qualifying canceled due to rain. It has been a wet Saturday at the race track throughout the day. As a result, Chase Elliott will start on the pole for the Cup Series race on Sunday. He has a great shot at winning his second race of the season with that track position.

The last time Chase Elliott was on pole at Dover was in 2020. The last time he won at Dover was in 2022. Last season, Elliott started P29 and finished P5. This is a track that he can definitely win on, and he will have his focus on doing just that tomorrow.

Out of 14 starts at Dover, Elliott has only finished outside of the top-five on four occasions. That is a ridiculous stat. Now, he gets to start on pole and will get a great pit stall selection.

This is a very interesting weekend in NASCAR. Dover has not been the best as far as the racing goes. But it is not as bad as what we have seen at some other short tracks. Those high speeds and the high banks of the track make passing somewhat easier. But aero is going to be very important.
