Former NASCAR driver Chase Pistone dies at 42

Chase Pistone, who made 10 combined starts in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, died on Monday. He was 42 years old.

The grandson of two-time Cup Series winner "Tiger" Tom Pistone, Chase Pistone made his NASCAR debut in the Craftsman Truck Series at Martinsville in 2005, finishing 35th. He made his O'Reilly Series (then the NASCAR Busch Series) debut in 2006, finishing 37th at Martinsville.

Chase Pistone's NASCAR career

After a lengthy absence, Pistone returned to NASCAR in 2014, making three O'Reilly Series starts with an average finish of 17.3. He also made five Truck Series starts in 2014 with an average finish of 15.8, including the lone top 10 of his NASCAR career at Gateway.

Pistone also made one start in the ARCA Menards Series in 2006, finishing eighth at Iowa Speedway. He failed to qualify for the 2007 ARCA race at Daytona and never attempted another race in the series.

The Cornelius, North Carolina, native turned a total of 1,731 laps during his 10 starts in NASCAR's top-three series. He never attempted a Cup Series start.

In addition to his own ventures behind the wheel, Pistone also built Legends cars and Super Late Models.
