NASCAR fans received a devastating update on the tragic deaths of Greg Biffle and his family this week.
Last week, the Biffle family was killed in a plane crash at Statesville Regional Airport. It was reported that Craig Wadsworth, Dennis Dutton and his son Jack were also involved in this accident.
“NASCAR is devastated by the tragic loss of Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, son Ryder, Craig Wadsworth and Dennis and Jack Dutton in a fatal plane crash. Greg was more than a champion driver, he was a beloved member of the NASCAR community, a fierce competitor, and a friend to so many. His passion for racing, his integrity, and his commitment to fans and fellow competitors alike made a lasting impact on the sport,” a statement from NASCAR read.
"On the track, Greg’s talent and tenacity earned him championships in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, as well as numerous wins and accolades in the NASCAR Cup Series. Beyond his racing career, he gave of himself for the betterment of our community. Most notably, Greg spent countless hours of his time helping the citizens of North Carolina during the disasters that followed Hurricane Helene. His tireless work saved lives. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Greg’s entire family, friends, and all who were touched by his life."
Biffle's generosity was always on full display. Earlier this year, he offered assistance to Jamaica and other Caribbean areas leveled by Hurricane Melissa.
One of Biffle's friends, Ron Herbert, revealed that he received the family's holiday card in the mail this week.
The holiday card from the Biffles had this kind message on it: "We hope that you are able to slow down and enjoy the magic and joy that this season has to offer. We hope you have a great New Year!"
As you'd imagine, the timing of this development has Herbert feeling pretty bummed out.
Statesville Regional Airport has finally reopened after this horrific crash involving the Biffles.
"The City of Statesville NC and Statesville Regional Airport extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in Thursday’s crash. We remain mindful of this loss as our community continues to grieve," Statesville Regional Airport said in a statement this week. "Thank you to our emergency responders, partner agencies, and the community for their patience and cooperation."
We're keeping Biffle's loved ones in our thoughts.
