The start of the Indianapolis 500 has been put on hold due to rain. Kyle Larson’s second attempt at the Double is up in the air. Everyone in Indianapolis and Charlotte is hoping that this is a short and quick delay. Larson only has a 40-minute buffer to work with today.
The rain began to slowly come down as the pre-race ceremonies went on. There is a hope that the race will be started soon enough, and allow for Larson to at least attempt all 1100 miles of the Double today.
Everyone is on edge. Will we see another Double ruined by Mother Nature? It would be a shame. The pre-race festivities have continued despite the delay for the Indianapolis 500.

Kyle Larson can’t risk a major delay. He can’t be relieved by Tony Kanaan, his backup driver. So, if he starts the race and gets out of the car, then that is the end of the race for the No. 17 team. No one wants to see that. Everyone wants to see Larson race every lap of the 1100-mile marathon today.
Good news, rain is moving out of the area quickly. There is a good amount of wind in the area, and the air is relatively dry. With all of that in mind, there is optimism that things won’t be delayed too much further by the weather. Right now, it feels like Larson will be cutting it close.
The Indianapolis 500 should get started very soon. He is sitting in the car and likely wondering when the rain will stop. Last season, there was a major delay. Larson knew he wasn’t going to make the start of the NASCAR race. However, this delay could be worse if Larson misses the start by just minutes.
The emotions are already running high. Larson is going to be racing at speeds he has rarely seen in his racing career. Now with the delay, the emotions have to be through the roof. The track has not been lost, the rain has moved out of the area, and now the jet dryers are on the track and trying to get this race going in time.
Kyle Larson and Hendrick Motorsports have to be wondering what they have done to deserve this for a second year. The rest of us will wait and see what happens. It is going to be incredibly close, regardless of when this race begins at this point.
